The Mass in B minor is widely regarded as one of the supreme achievements of classical music, bringing together all of the major musical innovations that JS Bach made in his career, and an inspiration to later composers including Haydn.
Soloists for this concert will be drawn from the Josephine Baker Trust, supported by a bequest from Jo Reader, a recent member of the Waverley Singers. The trust brings together choirs such as ours with the most talented singers at the Royal College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music. Past members of the trust have gone on to leading rôles at Covent Garden, as well as to prominent international concert careers. Hear the singing stars of tomorrow perform together with the Brandenburg Baroque Soloists, one of London’s finest period-instrument ensembles, in this most beautiful and magnificent of works.
For this performance, the Waverley Singers will be joined by Brandenburg Baroque Soloists, one of the exciting new orchestras playing on period instruments. The orchestra is a judicious mixture of Brandenburg Sinfonia players who play on both modern and original instruments with some of the finest period instrument specialists drawn from the same pool as Academy of Ancient Music, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and the Gabrieli Consort.
At this concert the Waverley Singers will be supporting the New Surrey Performing Arts Library.
